5 Cups

Related image:

The card shows a woman who is feeling corned, physically harmed  and afraid.  Several of her dreams lay at her feet crushed into pieces, whlie the remaining 2 are clutched with a protective nature, yet perhaps unappreciated.  Notice the shadow behind her.  In Jung's theories he describes an inner shadow that we all possess.  It represents the dark things that lie within us.  Whatever it is that has caused this woman harm, has brought parts of the shadow back into her conscious memory.  This includes one of the cups she holds protectively in her hand.

Ace Cups

Ace of Cups by Llewellyn Worldwide, via Flickr:

The card shows a single cup which is on the ocean floor amidst the natural oceanic environment.  You can see a variety of sealife at the base of the cup with a school of fish swimming in the background.  At the top of the cup are 2 catfish swimming.  The symbol of catfish is often associated with prosperity in new beginnings and emotional balance.  Inside the cup is the symbol for an inverted triangle known as the chalice.  The meaning of this sign is a representation of water and how it flows downward starting at the top.  It also symbolizes femininity.

High Priestess

High Priestess card from the Legacy of the Divine Tarot. The High Priestess says we will know the truth when we stop and listen the small, still voice within.:

This card shows a woman with a magical look in her eyes.  Her head is covered.  In hear right hand she holds a scroll and in her left is a coin with an unknown symbol on it.  She is physically coming out of water.  Her head is surrounded by a golden aura.  Above her head flies a white owl.

The high priestess is a woman of wisdom and experience in spirituality.  Coming out of the water, which symbolizes emotions and relationships, as well as, self-expression.  The white owl is a symbol of wisdom and change.

Overall meaning for the week

This week is going to be about changes.  While change can be painful and hard, it also represents the end of something and a new beginning.  For this spread, it would appear this is going to be an emotional change which will take a conscious effort to begin the process.  The change will be necessary to overcome an emotional obstacle in your life, perhaps going back to childhood.  This change will be a good thing and will restore emotional balance in your life.  You hold the secret to this change in your hand.  It is held tightly in your hands, you have but to open it in order to begin the process.  While it may be painful to begin an emotional change and may take conscious effort to do so, the rewards will be abundant and will increase your knowledge of yourself and the world around you.  Remain open this week to emotional change from something negative which will turn into something positive.

Harmony and strength

Legacy of the Divine Tarot / Gateway to the Divine Tarot by Ciro Marchetti - 10 of Cups:

The card above depicts a cat and a dog huddling together peacefully in front of a warm, glowing fireplace.  They both look warm and content. 10 Cups are displayed in an orderly fashion around the fireplace mantel.  Symbols for Mars and Pisces are also displayed hanging in front of the fireplace.

Mars and Pisces together represents harmony and togetherness.  These symbols together also do not get ruffled when things get a little heated up.

Fire is consuming, burning everything in its path.  While fire can be destructed and bring whatever it touches to ruin, the silver lining to this is the opportunity for a new beginning.  In a fireplace, the fire is contained and controlled, proving warmth and comfort.  it consumes whatever is placed into the fireplace with predicted results.

The number 10 in numerology represents unlimited potential and options. Therefore, these can be a range of creativity, thoughtfulness, drive, and passion, or a combination of both.  On this card, it could mean the options for success contains a variety of methods in attaining goals.  We are encouraged to be remain driven and passionate about this in order to reach sought after success.

The suit of cups represents the element of water.  The suit of cups is also related to harmony and peace in relationships.

You have resolved a tense, negative situation and have now safely contained it.  While it is being burnt with a fire of destruction, it is burning away that negativity and the result will be something new and beyond your expectations.  You could not have predicted this outcome but the resulting relationship will be peaceful and harmonious.  You have many options for what lies ahead with this relationship and the path is defined by you and the other party.  In order to attain this level of harmony, however, communication becomes key and will need to also be a product of the refining fire.  A blacksmith places iron, which when placed into the heat, becomes pliable and provides the blacksmith to shape the piece into the shape he wants.  The piece can be functional or decorative, yet when the goal has been attained, something new is forged which when cooled is stronger than it was previously.  While the burning and refining can be a painful process, you have completed this phase and the result has made you stronger and more beautiful than before.  This strength is something that you had before but due to the extreme, intensity of the situation, you have been molded and shaped into something new which is stronger than at the beginning of the situation.

Be gentle to yourself

Page of Cups from the Legacy of the Divine Tarot:

There stands an innocent child.  His expression is full of kindness yet he seems to be peering into your soul.  He is holding an empty cup.

The page is telling you to be kind and gentle with all those you meet.  Interact withothers, including yourself, in a way that is respectful and innocent.  Be prepared for a response which will fill your cup full and to the brim.  He represents an expectation which may be intense and full of introspection.  Allow yourself to be open to interaction with others who can nurture kindness to yourself.  The emplty cup is ready to be filled.  Be ready to use creativity and untraditional methods of filling this cup.  It may take some pondering or thought to come to the point of knowing what the cup will be filled with.

King of Cups

The card shows a stately king standing before a pool of water.  In his hands he holds a large cup, larger than the others in the suit.  He is surrounded by markings of the ocean on both sides and behind him.

The booklet says that the suit of cups involves emotions and feelings.  And this king is attempting to control those.  He is stern, yet loving.  Other reversersed qualities deceptive, crabby, cranky and possibly a heavy drinker with the characteristics of a drunk.

You may be in a situation or relationship with another person who is displaying harmful, toxic characteristics and has created a hostile, toxic environment.  This person may be trying to control or use you.  He/she may also be using their power for selfish purposes in a harmful way.  Make personal choices to protect yourself from this situation.  This may include placing a protective barrier around yourself or removing yourself from the situation altogether.
